Background
The challenge in training is to replicate operational conditions. This is no less true of defence force training than for any sport. The challenge with hand-to-hand combat training of regular soldiers and special forces is to replicate striking with the intensity of lethal force to inflict damage, but without injuring your training partners. After 5 years of R&D, Chiron Global Technologies has developed an innovative, patented and world leading full body training armour that is light weight, protects the wearer against lethal force strikes without restricting movement or agility of the defenders thereby mirroring operational conditions for attacker and defender as much as possible.
Progress
Designed for use in training defence, law enforcement, security and corrections personnel, the Chiron-X1TM enables seamless ‘force continuum escalation’ training where personnel can easily switch from kinetic to non-kinetic training without changing equipment or suits, promoting superior levels of training realism while reinforcing correct muscle memory. The Chiron-X1TM is available in male and female versions and in an operational version for first responders. The Chiron-X1RTM is a highly protective, full-coverage, lightweight armour system for civil unrest and highly dangerous scenarios including violent prisoner cell extraction and transportation, and other high-risk security scenarios. The Chiron-X3TM (currently undergoing development and certification) offers all of the features of the Chiron-X1RTM, with additional personal protection levels for frontline “first-entrant” personnel. The Chiron-X3TM has been engineered to provide the highest levels of coverage without compromising on weight or agility. Chiron’s X-series unique design can also integrate third party technologies including biometric sensors providing data on the health status of personnel while training or in the field.
The Chiron team has that blend of capabilities innovative start-ups need – commercial capability, an ability to critically assess your progress and pivot if needed, curiosity to reach out to find the best partners to engage with, execution capability and an ability to communicate clearly and concisely. As a result it has attracted a growing list of committed investors, fund-raising advisors, and a strong network of design and manufacturing partners it needs to develop and commercialise its products.
Chiron is a great example of Australian ingenuity, advanced composite materials collaboration and manufacturing technologies, working with potential customers to understand their needs and fine-tune designs for functionality and wearer comfort.
Triple Innovation value-add
Triple Innovation has assisted Chiron Global Technologies with R&D funding and to secure grant support from the Australian Government via the Australian Manufacturing Growth Centre, to develop the Chiron-X1TM suit, and from the Export Market Development Program as their product has attracted interest from offshore clients in Europe and the United States in particular.
